Brief biography
Justice Majiedt was born in the Kernhardt in the Northern Cape in 1960. He matriculated at William Pescod High School in Kimberely in 1978, before attending the University of the Western Cape. He obtained a BA (Law) and LLB at the university.
Justice Majiedt joined the Cape Bar after university. Soon after starting practice, he was offered a Fulbright Scholarship to attend Stanford University, but declined the offer. He later also declined an offer to study at North Western University, preferring to continue to work and contribute to the South African liberation struggle. Justice Majiedt acted in many human rights and public interest cases during this period.
In 1994, Justice Majiedt acted as the Head: Adjudication of the Independent Electoral Commission in the Northern CapeIn 1995, Justice Majiedt was appointed as the Chief Provincial State Law Advisor for the office of the Northern Cape Premier He left this post in 1999 to go back to practice, and was appointed a High Court Judge in 2000. He held that position for 10 years before being appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeal in 2010.
Justice Majiedt acted on the Constitutional Court from January to May 2014 and was permanently appointed to the Constitutional Court on 11 September 2019 by President Ramaphosa, along with Justice Tshiqi.
